The next version of Android OS has officially been named KitKat. This announcement comes as a surprise to every Android follower because previous speculations and "leaks"  suggested the next version would be named Key Lime Pie. It was also rumoured that the next version upgrade would be an Android version 5.0.

Unfortunately, Google has announced that the KitKat OS would be version 4.4 which means it's actually a "little" upgrade on Jelly Bean 4.3.

This KitKat version seems to maintain Google’s tradition of nicknaming it's Android versions after desserts.

The first version of Android, Android 1.5 was nicknamed Cupcake, the next 1.6 was Donut. Then 2.0 was named Éclair, following was 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread, 3.0 Honeycomb, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4.1 Jelly Bean and now 4.4 KitKat.

Who knows? Maybe the next version of Android would be named Lemon Pie, or Lava Cake just keeping in line with Google’s age-long tradition of using the deserts in alphabetical order( C, D, E all through K, which is the latest addition).

And with Google currently powering over 1 billion smartphones and tablets, the potential if Google KitKat cannot be underestimated; as there are plans to power smart watches, gaming consoles and even laptop PCs.
Well, powering PCs might be a long  shot, but if there's one thing I've noticed overtime, it's that Google does not miss her targets.

So, what is the dessert you think Google’s next Android OS would be named after?

By the way, the KitKat name is the trademark of the chocolate candy bar by Nestle licensed by Hershey in USA.
