As is the always the case with the release of mobile devices, there has been a bunch lot of debates about what Nokia would call their tablet line, with some people thinking a new designation would be used instead of Lumia.
Giving the same names to tablets and smartphones seems odd quite alright; but  then again Microsoft has hinted and many analysts have also commented that Microsoft will combine RT and Windows Phone in the future.
This, perhaps, might be the first attempt at that planned naming style (giving the same name to tablets and smartphones.
It would be noteworthy to remember that Microsoft will own the Lumia brand, so perhaps this seemingly last minute decision was made in conjunction with their future owners.

The Lumia 2520 is expected to be announced at the October 22nd event by Nokia. 
Not much has been said about this tablet but it seems it would feature 2.15 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm 8974 (ARM) processor and sport 10.1-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display.
It will weigh in a 1.3 pounds (about 590 grams), have LTE and a ZEISS 6.7 MP camera. Priced at $499 (about N79,000) the tablet will run Windows 8.1 RT.

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Come With 64-bit Processor

Samsung had previously made it clear that soon after the announcement of the iPhone 5S, it's next smartphone would have a 64-bit functionality. 
This might not be far from reality considering the fact that the 64-bit CPU currently on the iPhone was made by Samsung. The South Korean manufacturers (Samsung) continue to be the Cupertino giant's (Apple's) go to source for processors and CPUs. 
Well, Android (which is the power house behind all of Samsung's Galaxy devices) has had the ability to work with 64-bit CPUs for a long time now. And according to Korean media, Samsung is into the final stages of development of its 64-bit processor and the company’s next flagship (who else than the Samsung Galaxy S5?) would be powered by such a CPU.

Well, it only gets better as Samsung will, in a completely logical move, also put the new tech at work inside some of its tablets.
For your information, the move to a 64-bit architecture has the following advantages:
==> manufacturers to increase the RAM (more than 4GB) memory of their devices.
==> the 64-bit architecture has 31 registers, each 64-bits wide, which can be accessed at all times, potentially leading, to a 10% increase in performance .
==> advanced features are also other reasons why the 64-bit CPUs coming to Android looks promising.

New Hope For Blackberry As It Gets a Potential Buyer

With Fairfax Financial-led consortium intending to buy out the company, Blackberry, for $4.7 billion the company's fate is finally coming into focus. And I think there is more hope for Blackberry now than there was in the past few years. 
The company announced on Monday that it has signed a letter of intent with a consortium lead by Fairfax Financial. The $4.7 billion buy out is also valued at $9 per share. 
CEO of Fairfax Prem Watsa, a former BlackBerry board member, said that the buyout would make BlackBerry a private company and would “open an exciting new private chapter for BlackBerry, its customers, carriers and employees. ”
BlackBerry says it expects Fairfax to finish conducting its due diligence by November 4th. 
Even though the deal is not yet binding at this point, BlackBerry will still have to pay Fairfax a fee of $0.30 per share if the deal doesn’t happen. 
BlackBerry shares jumped about 3% on on the news, which is a good thing for the company considering it's decline in share values over the months. Blackberry going private doesn't mean they would stop production. Infact, they would continue their operations as usual but their shares would no longer be available to the public!

How To Disable Apps' Access to Mobile Data in The New iOS 7.

Recently, iOS 7 was launched by Apple Inc. and packed with the new and fancy features, is a new look given to the iOS 7.
The old shiny, sparkling and lively user interface of the previous iOS versions have been replaced by a simple, flat and somewhat colorful iOS 7. 
That being said, the new iOS 7 also includes a number of new hidden features that have been hidden from the average user, one of which is the background app refresh.
You can actually stop apps that you've allowed to refresh in the background from consuming your precious mobile data (MB). 
Reasons why you might want to stop these apps from accessing your mobile data include:
1) You don't have an active mobile data plan yet. 
2) Maybe you do have a mobile data plan, but it's not unlimited. 
If your apps are data-suckers (which is the case for many iOS apps that need an active internet connection), then it won't take long before you are out of your monthly allotment. Turning off access to mobile data would surely help you reduce costs.
To do turn off apps access to mobile data, simply:
1) Launch your Settings app. 
2) Navigate to Cellular 
3) Scroll down to where you see a section titled; Use Cellular Data For: (you should now see a list of apps with toggle switches next to each one.

4) Turn off any of the apps that you want to stop from using your mobile data. You can do this by clicking in the toggle switch beside the app. 
Additional Tip 
To find out how and which if your apps are suckling your data the most, go to the same app list in step 3 above. 
You'll  see “KB” or “MB” next to a number (under the app name) next to it. That is how much of your mobile data in Kilobytes (or Megabytes as the case may be) 
that app has used.

Android's New KitKat OS Rumoured To Be Released On October!

We already knew that the next version of Android has been named KitKat. What we didn't know was the release date.
A source at the version's Facebook page gives us an idea of when to expect the update. 
The release date for the Android 4.4 KitKat update has been scheduled for October. This came from those in control of the KitKat social media page on Facebook.
Earlier this month, Google announced that it would be release a new Android update to succeed Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Instead of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the company announced Android 4.4 KitKat, one of the few softwares that whole official, has no piece of information regarding its specs. 
However, we do know that the update is a partnership with Nestle (USA) and it's candy, the KitKat bar.

Android 4.4 KitKat will hopefully be coming in October. 
Whoever is behind the KitKat Facebook page in Germany has suggested that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be made available at some point in October.
The account confirms this to be the case multiple times and it even references Android 4.4. 
The person behind this account most likely has some official information that, from the look of things, isn't meant to be a secret, or they could simply be going off of rumors that suggest that a Nexus 5 will be released alongside Android 4.4 KitKat in October. 
According to Nestle, the Android 4.4 KitKat update is due next month nd with a Nexus 5 launch 
date in October, the new Nexus 
smartphone is likely to have 
Android 4.4 KitKat aboard. 
Rumors suggest an October 14th launch for both hardware and software which could mean a release inside the month of October as the Facebook comments suggest.
Little or nothing else is known about the Android 4.4 KitKat update though rumors suggest that it could bring updates for older devices, fragmentation changes including screen resizing, Miracle updates, color changes and new notification widgets.

Blackberry Announces Suspension of BBM For Android

After <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/09/working-bbm-for-android-with-download.html">leaks of the BBM app apk</a> yesterday, Blackberry have announced the suspension of the big rollout of BBM for Android. 
In case you don't know,  the app which was supposed to be launched for Android (by 12noon Nigerian time) on the Google Playstore didn't show up. 
While it's counterpart BBM for iOS was released in some countries, it's rollout will also be suspended! 
The reason for the suspension is that more than 1.1 million users have already downloaded the leaked app causing some instabilities and hence a halt in the launch of the app. 
BlackBerry claimed to have been working all day to fix the problems caused by the leak but to no avail. 
Those who have already downloaded the iOS app would still be able to use it but the Android app would be suspended. Too bad:(... 
However, Blackberry now plans to stage a staggered country rollout for BBM on Android and do a fresh rollout for iOS. 
The company has also remained silent concerning the date of this new staggered rollout. 
BBM for iOS and Android was announced back in May at the BlackBerry Live conference, and the company had committed to a launch before the end of this summer. 
Thanks to the leaked apk, the set time frame no longer seems  attainable.

A number of links gave been springing up here and there but I noticed that most of them have been taken down due to excessive traffic from anxious Android users.

This is great news for all BBM fans on Android and iOS. The Canadian smartphone maker, Blackberry has finally and officially announced the roll out date of Blackberry Messenger for Android and iOS. 
The official roll out date of Blackberry Messenger for Android has been announced to be the 21st of September(7 am EDT which is 12 noon Nigerian time) while those on the iOS mobile platform are to have the BBM for iOS app 5 hours later (12 noon EDT which is 5 pm Nigerian time). 
This is closely following the leak of the BBM for Android app released earlier this week (thanks to folks over at XDA). 
For Android users, you might want to note that the BBM for android is not for all android users as the app  will be available for free download and installation on Android phones running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean OS versions only. 
For iOS users, the app would be available in the App Market for iOS 6 and 7 users only. So if you have not done your update, it's about time to do some homework ;). 
The Blackberry Messenger was previously developed solely for Blackberry smartphones, but now it would be made available on the iOS and Android mobile platforms for free download. Alternatively, you can download it from the <a href="http://ca.blackberry.com/bbm.html">Blackberry</a>. 
Some of the features to expect include :

7 Ways To Bypass Any Android Device's Lock Screen!

You have probably been looking for a way to bypass your Android lock screen and might ask, Why on earth would I want to do that? 
One reason could be solely for educational purpose (you just want to know how). The other reason could be because you probably forgot your password and you don't want to go through hard reseting your device. 
Hard reseting your device is very disadvantageous because once you hard reset, you lose all of your customizations, settings and stuffs. This would naturally take you back to square zero (yeah right! Definitely not square one) . :-D 
 
I have been looking for surefire ways to bypass android lock screen for a while now. Ways that are different from the <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/08/tutorials-how-to-unlock-locked-android.html">methods I published</a>. And after doing some pretty good Googling, I came across this forum thread that  gave some tutorials on how to bypass android locks screen. And Yes! Seven different ways to do that. 
 
Most of these methods however require you to have: 
1) USB debugging turned on. 
2) Access to a computer. 
 
One particularly interesting method (method 3) explains how to bypass lock screen by sending an SMS to the phone you want to bypass it's lock screen. But before you can use that method, you'ld need to have: 
 
1) <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/08/android-rooting-what-it-is-advantages.html">Root access on the device</a>. This means that your phone should be rooted. Don't know what rooting is? <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/08/android-rooting-what-it-is-advantages.html">See here</a>! 
 
2)  Installed an application-SMS Bypass (which requires root access) before the lock screen incident that's before you forget your lock screen password, pattern or pin. If your device is not rooted, it simply won't work. 
You might also want to note that the instructions concerning adb can be carried out using command prompt for Windows PC users.

As we already know,  Apple launched iOS 7 for her esteemed users and customers sometime yesterday, Wednesday the 18th of September, 2013.
Folks over at <a href="http://www.hongkiat.com">Hongkiat</a> have given a detailed explanation on how to install the iOS 7 update with the necessary download links (for manual updates). 
There are two ways to carry out this update viz:
1) Automatic OTA (Over The Air) update from the device’s settings and 
2) Manual update by downloading the .ipsw and installing it via iTunes. 
The first method of update (OTA) seems to be more appealling if you ask me.
I've gotta warn you though, that this update would take a lot of time to finish as:
1) all the updates files for all the various versions of both iPhones and iPads are a little over 1GB in size... 
2) alot of iOS users would be wanting to access Apple's servers to have a feel of what the iOS has in store for them. 
Last year, when the iOS 6 was launched, <a href="http://bgr.com/2012/09/24/iphone-5-launch-sales-2012/">over 100  million users updated their devices within the space of 1 week</a>. 
A little patience would do you a lot of good.

Now, here comes the big deal! 
To make your tweet disappear after a given time use the harshtag (#) followed immediately by the time interval, after which time your tweet would disappear. 
For example, 'This tweet would self destruct in #3m' simply means that in three minutes the tweet would dissappear. 
Of course you can send whatever tweet you want and whatever time you want. 
The time format should be like 2m, 4h, 5d for 2 minutes, 4 hours and 5 days respectively. So that when you tweet with harshtags such as #2m, #4h  or #5d, your tweet self destruct after that time.

Earlier this month, two smartphone manufacturing giants Samsung and Apple made some announcement on a new release of phones: <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/09/review-unveiling-of-samsung-galaxy-note.html">Galaxy Note III</a> and iPhone 5S respectively. 
And with the release dates just around the corner (Galaxy Note III in early October and iPhone 5S around 20th September), smartphone enthusiasts and users are already prepping the list of most likely purchase. No doubt, these two smartphones are also likely to make that list! 
There have been reviews here and there for the smartphones and I recently came across a very wonderful review of the Samsung Galaxy Note III vs the iPhone 5S from <a href="http://www.gottabemobile.com">Gottabemobile</a>. 
Just to help those who might be in a dilemma about which of Galaxy Note III and iPhone 5S to purchase, author, <a href="http://www.gottabemobile.com/author/adam/">Adam Mill</a> from Gottabemobile has done justice to things you need to consider before making your final decision between the two devices.

4) The Galaxy Note III promises more memory space with 96GB (32GB internal and 64GB expandable) where the iPhone 5S comes in three variants sporting 16, 32 and 64GB. And as we know iPhone's don't support external memory cards.

Okay, so you have an application on your Android device and it's so cool that you just can't bring yourself to stop talking about it.
Now you don’t stop there, you actually go ahead to tell your friends and colleagues about this 'so cool' application. 
Great! You've told them about the app and they've asked you, 'how do I get this app'? You start telling them to 'Google it'! 
Really? Is there no better way to share this really awesome android app you've got with your friends without necessarily having to Google it or visit the Google Playstore? 
Well, I've got some pretty good news for you. You can! 
Ya, if you remember the glory days of Symbian, those days are here again but this time on Android! 
You can do the same very same thing on Android and with much more ease. All you need to do is:

2) Open the My App Sharer on your phone, select the type of app file you want to share (apk or download link) from the top of the app. In this case we are interested in the apk. 
So, select apk.

3) Scroll through the list of applications available on your device, select the one you want to share. You can also select as many apps as possible to share. 
4) Then click on Share at the top right corner of the app' s interface.

Yesterday, the 16th of September, there was a leak of the BBM for Android. The leak contained screen shots of the app and links to the application's apk download page. 
But before I could lay my hands on the apk, it had already been taken down by Blackberry. 
I know they've got reasons for doing that, though I wonder how the leak came out. 
The leak was on the <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446528">XDA developers</a> forum which provided a download link to <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/download/fo8sdg8axt3a5oq/com.bbm.apk">Media Fire</a>. Like I said before, the file has been taken down. 
I did some research later on and accidentally stumbled on a site with an active download link. 
Well, just in case you want to see what the BBM app looks like, I have a provided a link below this post which has the BBM apk download embedded within. 
You might want to note two things though:
1) The application is pretty much useless and I think it's because Blackberry has not officially launched it. They might need to fire up their Blackberry servers to support Android devices or other technical stuffs dey need to do. 
2) The application might not work on an Android OS below Ice Cream Sandwich. So if you own a device with Honeycomb OS or lower, you might as well not bother wasting your precious data to download the apk file. 
Okay,  so here is the link if you still want to download it and, remember it's really not useful until Blackberry fires up her full support for BBM for Android.

Recently, I published an article on <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/09/how-to-increase-your-computer-speed.html?m=1">how to increase your computer's speed</a>. I also stated defragmentation as one of the ways in which you can increase your computer's speed. 
Today, I'm going to be categorically explaining the confusing but simple task of <a name='more'></a>defragmentation! 
I have previously stated what defragmentation is but for the purpose of emphasis, I would repeat it. A fragmented disk is a disk that has been fragmented :-).
Okay, lemme be plain, the way computers have been programmed to save files in their respective disks is very disorderly. For instance, a file saved in your disk can be arranged in such a way that the beginning of the disk, that's where some parts of the file is written.
Some parts? Yeah! Some parts are written at the beginning of the the disk. You may want to ask, what happens to the remaining parts? The remaining parts would then be written the end or middle of the disk, or where ever else the computer 'sees' space. 
This is quite a disorderly pattern and if you take a good look at it; when you finally need to call up the saved file, the computer starts sorting the disk for the actual file you've requested from whatever number of spaces it had written them. This can make your computer respond slowly at times. This process of scattering files where ever the computer deems fit is fragmentation, and the files scattered in such manner are known as fragments.
Now defragmentation is the process of sorting these files that have been scattered all over the disk and arranging them in an orderly manner. Hope you get my drift?

To defragment your disk, follow the simple steps outlined below. 
1) From your Start menu, go to Control panel. 
2) At the top right corner, on the same line with adjust your computer's settings, you'd see View by:, make sure to select category. 
3) Now click on System and Security. 
4) Next, Click on Defragment Your Hard Drive. It's usually below Administrative tool. 
If nothing happens, look for and  a program in your task bar with the name, disk defragmenter. 
Alternatively, goto Computer from a your Start menu. Right click on one if the Disk drives, select properties. A dialogue box pops up! Now select the Tools tab at the top of the dialogue box. 
Select Defragment now. 
5) Okay hold on... Before you get all jumpy, Select the disk you want to defragment, say Disk (C:). 
6) Click on Analyze Disk.
7)Wait for the analysis to be complete. You should now see what percentage of the disk is fragmented. You can now chose whether or not to run defragmentation. I for one usually run defragmentation once 10% of my disk is fragmented. 
8) Once you've made your choice to defragment, click on Defragment Disk. 
It should start defragmentation. For best results, you should run your defragmentation when you are sure you don't need to use the computer urgently. If however you start defragment in and then you see the need to use the computer, you can stop the defragmentation by clicking on Stop operation. 
You can also schedule defragmentation to run whenever you want it to run. To do schedule defragmentation, simply:
1) Click on Configure Schedule still on the Disk defragmenter interface. 
2) Set the frequency of schedule e.g, Monthly, 
3) Day of Schedule e.g, 24
4) Time of schedule e.g 7:00pm
5) Select Disks to defragment by clicking Select Disks.... Tick as many disks you want or better still, thick (Select all disks) 
That's it! Now you've known how to run defragmentation on your computer and I believe you've scheduled defragmentation too. 
You should start experiencing a difference in your computer'computer's speed.

Have you ever wondered why when you first buy a computer, it's speed is very fast, snappy and responsive?  Always doing your bidding with little or no lag at all. Well, as we all know, over time the story changes and you begin<a name='more'></a>to ask yourself, "what's all this?", "why is this computer getting unnecessarily slow?" There are a couple of reasons though, why computers get slow.
Truth is sometimes, we forget that the more softwares we install on our computers, the slower our computer becomes. This is because every software installed has it's own demand on your computer's memory. 
Now, let's assume each software is a block of concrete, and the computer (with it's available memory space) is a skateboard. If we set this skateboard into motion, and decide to load concrete blocks on the skateboard; with time, the skateboard slows down until it comes to a halt as a result of the weight acting on it! Hope you get my drift? 
Also, apart from the fact that your computer slows down over time, you also notice that as time goes on it takes a longer time to boot. Well, this can be attributed to the increasing number of start-up programs (programs that start automatically as you boot your computer).
Also, junk and temporary "temp" files are accumulated over time which also slow down computer speed! 
Now we've seen some reasons why a computer slows down over time, let's look at simple maintenance tasks that can speed up your computer dramatically. 
⇨Turn Off And Stop All Fancy Desktop Features/Programs 
A number of desktop beautification programs are nice and very fanciful to behold. But as much as these features make your desktop fanciful, they also slow down your computer and program response time. Get rid of them to increase your computer's speed! 
⇨ Defragment Your Drives Regularly. 
<a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/09/how-to-defragment-your-hard-drives-and.html?m=1"> Defragging is a simple process</a> which takes place when file fragments (which is the way in which Windows arranges files) are put together to speed up file access. These file fragments are put together and quality defragmentation utilities (which are built in Windows) also assemble the free space into a single block to prevent future fragmentation. 
So with regular use, your files are arranged 'haphazardly' in little bits and pieces. That's why you should defragment your hard drive on a regular basis. This includes all your computer hard drives-as many partitions as there are-no partition should be exempted. 
This is a very simple maintenance task to run. Good thing is you can also <a href="http://www.daechuzzy.com/2013/09/how-to-defragment-your-hard-drives-and.html?m=1">schedule defragmentation</a> hence automating the task of increasing your computer speed!
⇨ Shutdown Regularly! 
Forgetting to shutdown is a very common practice amongst avid computer/laptop users. 
Maybe because rebooting can be a pain, or because you want your computer to be always ready-to-go, or because you want your computer to work while you sleep, or probably because you run a server on your computer! But shutting down regularly increases your computer speed. How? When you don't shutdown, temp files accumulate on your computer, this slows down the computer's performance overtime! However, shutting down helps to take care of the issues that come up as a result of temp file accumulation! 
⇨ Disable Desktop Shortcuts. 
Desktop shortcuts are totally unnecessary, they not only occupy space on your desktop but also are an inefficient way to open files and programs on your desktop. Apart from reducing your computer speed, they also slow down your computer boot time! Better ways to open files would be to use Startup Menu, Quick Launch Menu etc. Doing this little thing also speed up your computer quite significantly.
⇨ Uninstall Programs That Are No Longer Useful. 
Like I mentioned earlier, every program you install in your computer occupies some memory space. Now, if you continually install programs on your computer without removing them, you reduce the available memory on there, hence slowing down your computer. To make your computer faster, take your time to browse through your installed programs and uninstall the ones you no longer have need of.
⇨ Reduce The Number Of Startup Programs. 
What do I mean by startup programs? These are programs that start as soon as you power on your computer. Many programs assign themselves (as a result of the way they were written) to start on boot; and removing as many of these programs as possible would help increase your computer speed as well as no boot time. 
⇨ Close All Unused Programs. 
This is another factor many computer owners ignore. Imagine running many programs at the same time! While it's not impossible to do that (all thanks to multitasking), you would be putting too much strain on the computers processing power and thus speed. Closing programs that are not currently being used would go a long way to speed up your computer.
⇨ Increase Your RAM Size. 
All the factors I have mentioned before now deal with software. Increasing your RAM size is however an hardware task. To be completely honest with you the above tips would NOT work if you have a low RAM size! Imagine using a 512MB  RAM and expecting your computer to be speedy; it doesn't work that way. So you might try heading up to your computer technician's and asking for a RAM increase. It would also increase your computer speed dramatically!
