New Hope For Blackberry As It Gets a Potential Buyer

<p>With Fairfax Financial-led consortium intending to buy out the company, Blackberry, for $4.7 billion the company's fate is finally coming into focus. And I think there is more hope for Blackberry now than there was in the past few years. </p>
<p>The company announced on Monday that it has signed a letter of intent with a consortium lead by Fairfax Financial. The $4.7 billion buy out is also valued at $9 per share. </p>
<p>CEO of Fairfax Prem Watsa, a former BlackBerry board member, said that the buyout would make BlackBerry a private company and would “open an exciting new private chapter for BlackBerry, its customers, carriers and employees. ”</p>
<p>BlackBerry says it expects Fairfax to finish conducting its due diligence by November 4th. <br>
Even though the deal is not yet binding at this point, BlackBerry will still have to pay Fairfax a fee of $0.30 per share if the deal doesn’t happen. <br>
BlackBerry shares jumped about 3% on on the news, which is a good thing for the company considering it's decline in share values over the months.</p> <p><b>Blackberry going private doesn't mean they would stop production. Infact, they would continue their operations as usual but their shares would no longer be available to the public!</b></p>

<p>This is great news for all BBM fans on Android and iOS. The Canadian smartphone maker, Blackberry has finally and officially announced the roll out date of Blackberry Messenger for Android and iOS. </p>
<p>The official roll out date of Blackberry Messenger for Android has been announced to be the 21st of September(7 am EDT which is 12 noon Nigerian time) while those on the iOS mobile platform are to have the BBM for iOS app 5 hours later (12 noon EDT which is 5 pm Nigerian time). </p>
<p>This is closely following the leak of the BBM for Android app released earlier this week (thanks to folks over at XDA). </p>
<p>For Android users, you might want to note that the BBM for android is not for all android users as the app  will be available for free download and installation on Android phones running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean OS versions only. </p>
<p>For iOS users, the app would be available in the App Market for iOS 6 and 7 users only. So if you have not done your update, it's about time to do some homework ;). </p>
<p>The Blackberry Messenger was previously developed solely for Blackberry smartphones, but now it would be made available on the iOS and Android mobile platforms for free download. Alternatively, you can download it from the <a href="http://ca.blackberry.com/bbm.html">Blackberry</a>. </p>
<p>Some of the features to expect <u>include</u> :</p>
<p>1) The BBM Chat to enjoy real time conversations on  BBM with your friends on Android. </p>
<p>2) Receiving alerts once your message is delivered, read and bring replied in real time!</p>
<p>3) The ability to share photos and voice notes quickly and easily. </p>
<p>4) Group Chat Support. </p>
<p>5) Your unique PIN </p>
<p>6) The ability to post status updates, change display pictures (popularly known as DP), </p>
<p>7) Add contacts and stay in touch with them, with real time feeds from their status updates. </p>
<p>To ease the introduction to BBM for a Blackberry has provided user guides for the app on <a href="http://global.blackberry.com/content/dam/blackBerry/campaigns/bbm/user-guides/BBM_for_Android-1.0_User_Guide-Beta.pdf">Android</a> and <a href="http://global.blackberry.com/content/dam/blackBerry/campaigns/bbm/user-guides/BBM_for_iOS-1.0_User_Guide-Beta.pdf">iOS</a>. Both manuals are in portable document format (PDF). </p>

<p>Yesterday, the 16th of September, there was a leak of the BBM for Android. The leak contained screen shots of the app and links to the application's apk download page. <br>
But before I could lay my hands on the apk, it had already been taken down by Blackberry. </p>
<p>I know they've got reasons for doing that, though I wonder how the leak came out. </p>
<p>The leak was on the <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446528">XDA developers</a> forum which provided a download link to <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/download/fo8sdg8axt3a5oq/com.bbm.apk">Media Fire</a>. Like I said before, the file has been taken down. </p>
<p>I did some research later on and accidentally stumbled on a site with an active download link. </p>
<p>Well, just in case you want to see what the BBM app looks like, I have a provided a link below this post which has the BBM apk download embedded within. </p>
<p>You might want to note two things though:</p>
<p>1) The application is <b><i>pretty much useless</i></b> and I think it's because Blackberry has not officially launched it. They might need to fire up their Blackberry servers to support Android devices or other technical stuffs dey need to do. </p>
<p>2) The application <b>might not work</b> on an Android OS below Ice Cream Sandwich. So if you own a device with Honeycomb OS or lower, you might as well not bother wasting your precious data to download the apk file. </p>
<p>Okay,  so here is the link if you still want to download it and, remember it's really not useful until Blackberry fires up her full support for BBM for Android. </p>
